January 2, 2021 – It is with sincere heartbreak that we join the citizens of Calgary and the policing community in mourning the death of Sgt. Andrew Harnett. This is a tragic loss.

Sgt. Harnett was a beloved officer who served Calgarians honourably during his 12 years with the Calgary Police Service. In that time, he received awards for teamwork and cooperation as well as two Chief’s Awards for saving the life of another. His courage, dedication and sacrifice in service to our city will be remembered with gratitude.

We extend our condolences to Sgt. Harnett’s family and friends. We hope the cherished memories held by those who knew him will provide some comfort during this difficult time and that his legacy will be an inspiration for others.

To all of Sgt. Harnett’s colleagues and friends, we offer our condolences as well as our thanks for your service and commitment. For CPS officers struggling to cope with this loss, please know that your wellness and safety is a priority for the Commission and the entire community. We encourage you to access the peer and/or psychological supports available.

We also know many Calgarians are feeling this loss deeply. Citizens looking for a way to channel this communal grief can send condolence messages to condolences@calgarypolice.ca or acquire blue ribbons from the Police & Peace Officers Memorial Ribbon Society.

Sincerely,
