Commissioner Samuel Hope brings over 20 years of extensive experience in public security and public sector leadership to our Commission.
He currently works for the Government of Alberta as the Director of Operational Support at the Calgary Remand Centre, where he is responsible for the planning and coordination of the daily operations of Alberta’s second-largest remand institution. In addition, he is co-owner of a consulting company that helps organizations conduct in-depth workplace investigations and provides leadership training.
Before taking on his current roles, Commissioner Hope led key teams at The City of Calgary. He first served as the Chief Safety Officer for Calgary Transit, where he was responsible for the overall safety of transit and led Calgary’s 135 uniformed Transit Peace Officers. He later moved to become a Manager of Risk and Compliance, where he was responsible for making sure nine of The City’s largest business units were prepared for emergencies and disasters.
He has also previously worked in corporate security, as a youth pastor, as a provincial court Sheriff, and as a police detective in the United Kingdom.
Commissioner Hope has a Master of Science in Security and Risk Management (Criminology) from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. He also holds a Certificate in Strategic Leadership from Western University, and Certificates in Security Management, Occupational Health and Safety and Professional Management from the University of Calgary.
He was first appointed to the Commission in November 2023.
