Commissioner Shawn Cornett was appointed to the Commission in November 2019 following a career of helping corporations create successful and healthy workplaces by applying her skills in operations, organizational effectiveness, change management, and governance.

After many years as the Talent Management Vice President at Nexen, Commissioner Cornett is now a management and business consultant helping clients with strategic planning, executive coaching, leadership development, and culture design.

She is a committed community volunteer, currently serving on the Boys and Girls Club of Canada after 12 years chairing the Calgary organization. She is also on the board of the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, serves with the United Way of Calgary in several roles, and is a past member of the Athabasca University board of governors.

Commissioner Cornett served as Commission Chair from 2021 to 2024, collaboratively leading the Commission through a time of significant change.

She has a Ph.D in Human and Organizational Development, a Master of Science in Environmental Science, and an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
