The Calgary Police Commission is proud to announce that nominations are open for two new awards being launched this fall.

To help recognize those that have made exceptional contributions to policing in our community over many years, our Commission is creating lifetime achievement awards that will be presented at the Calgary Police Service’s annual Chief’s Awards Gala in November.

The Lifetime Achievement in Community Policing Award will recognize one community member each year who has contributed to lasting positive change in the field of policing for a decade or more of their life. Nominees for this can have supported changes by working with the Calgary Police Service as a volunteer, academic, community leader, community partner, or in some other capacity, as long as they were not police employees.

The Lifetime of Distinguished Service Award will recognize one Calgary Police Service employee annually that has contributed to lasting positive change in the field of policing while working in policing or law enforcement for at least 20 years. The award is open to both police officers and civilian employees of the Service, including any former employees that retired or resigned within the past two years.

Anyone can submit a nomination for a deserving individual. All that is required is a nomination letter and two letters of support from people who know the nominee in a different capacity. For information on the awards and to download a nomination form, visit our awards webpage.

Nominations for this year’s lifetime achievement awards are due by Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

In past years, our Commission recognized members of the community with six different Community Policing Awards. Many of the previous award categories now overlap with awards offered by other organizations, which led to the two lifetime achievement awards replacing the previous categories this year.
