The Calgary Police Commission is partnering with an independent research firm to conduct a series of virtual focus group sessions in May to gather perspectives from Indigenous and Black Calgarians about the actions underway within the Calgary Police Service to address systemic racism.
Results from the Commission’s 2020 citizen research that showed these two communities have the lowest perception of police. These initial focus groups will seek feedback on reform plans to understand whether the actions CPS has identified are on the right track, which will help refine strategies aimed at improving the services CPS provides to all communities.
Further engagement opportunities may be available in the future to enable other interested Calgarians to share their thoughts.
